Gen Z Protest turn to fire

In September, Nepal witnessed a wave of protests led by Gen Z, fueled by frustration over corruption , social media ban, and increasing restrictions on freedom of expression. What began as a peaceful call for justice quickly turned into chaos, with several groups taking advantage of the movement for their own gain. Reports emerged that many opportunists used the cover of protests to commit large-scale theft and vandalism.

Showrooms across Kathmandu and other cities were targeted, with numerous cars and motorcycles stolen in broad daylight. Beyond looting, arson became another disturbing outcome of the unrest, as dozens of vehicles were set on fire, leaving the streets filled with smoke and destruction. Amid this turmoil, Towing Nepal stepped in to provide critical support.

Our tow trucks have been working around the clock to transport burnt and damaged vehicles to safe locations, preventing further hazards and helping maintain some order in the middle of the crisis. While the Gen Z protest was meant to shine a light on systemic corruption and bring change, its true essence was overshadowed by criminal activities. Innocent business owners and citizens bore the brunt of the damages, raising questions about how genuine movements can be hijacked by those with destructive motives. As Nepal recovers from the September unrest, the hope remains that the real voices of the youth will not be lost in the noise of chaos and misuse.
